No, I didn’t see iron chef Chen Kenichi or Hiroyuki Sakai, or any of he
iron chefs for that matter! My family and I went to Cabramatta for yum
cha to show my grand aunt (who is visiting from China) around. Iron Chef definitely is our family's favourite yum cha restaurant at the moment :) I think I
will just let the photos do the talking!
Particularly enjoyed the chicken feet which have been deep fried and
then marinated in that gorgeous sauce (I know not everyone can bring
themselves to eat that sot of thing haha but I love it!), the bird’s
nest which had minced pork surrounded by a taro paste and then is deep
fried with a batter to give it that nest-like look, and the crunchy skin
of the suckling pig! Of course the mango pudding with condensed milk
and mango pancake tasted excellent (it’s mango with evaporated milk and
cream, what’s not to love?).
So are you a fan of the casual "grab what you want off the trolley" at yum cha or do you prefer ordering off a menu at restaurants? And have any of you tried chicken feet and loved it?
I love seeing what there is so I do love the trolleys although I understand that the food is fresher if you order it from the kitchen :)
ReplyDeleteThat is definitely true. A good yum cha is very dependent on the rate of turnover of the food on the trolleys which ensures fresher dumplings! Dumplings that have been sitting around in the steamers for too long creates a sticky skin that isn't that appetising :( I think Iron Chef is popular because of their high turnover rate! :)
DeleteI'm so glad that I'm going to Yum Cha this weekend - your photos have set off my cravings. I've only been to Iron Chef once but I loved it.
ReplyDeleteOoh I always enjoy yum cha! Have a good time this weekend :D Our family drives all the way out to Cabramatta just for Iron Chef each time we feel like having yum cha. Clearly we have a bit of an infatuation with the place :P
DeleteHeard lots of good things about this place, most of my friends who live nearby swear by their Yum Cha! Considering a visit to Cabra since I haven't been in so long :)
ReplyDeleteOur family has only been to yum cha here for the past two years after discovering it! :D I wish Cabramatta wasn't such a trek though :( Esp since there are so many good things there :)
Deleteone of my mates is a massive fan of chicken feet. my folks love it too. i don't mind either. used to go to yum cha regularly when i was younger so i'm pretty much used to it. planning to head to Cabra for Yum Cha next week. still deciding on Iron Chef or Vinh Phat lol
ReplyDeleteI love the marinated chicken feet more than the plain steamed ones :D Ooh I've never been to Vinh Phat. Is it good?
Deletei'd definitely recommend trying out Vinh Phat though I have not been there since it moved across the street so i'm not sure what it's like now.
DeleteI'll definitely have to check it out next time and report back! :D
Deleteif you love yum cha around cabra, you should really try fortune8. no space for trolleys but the waiters come around with the selections as they come out of the kitchen!
ReplyDeleteI've been to Fortun8 but I personally prefer Iron Chef! :D
